General information
The SERPENT project operates in collaboration with Narvik Student Society (NSS), which provides us with access to essential services such as banking and an organization number. This partnership allows us to bypass the long waiting periods usually required to set up a new student association. In addition to these services, NSS also provides us with a dedicated website, email, and a broader platform to promote our project.
The project was initiated by the Institute of Electrical Engineering and Technology (IET) under the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (IVT) at UiT, The Arctic University of Norway in Narvik. While the project is student-driven, we receive valuable support from the university, including guidance from a university representative who serves as project manager alongside the student project leader.
Project Structure
Our mission is to launch a 2U cubesat, which will separate into two 1U cubesats (each 10x10x10cm) once in space. The project is divided into three main teams, each responsible for critical components of the mission:
-
Attitude Determination and Control (ADC): This team is responsible for detumbling the cubesat, ensuring that it stabilizes and orients correctly after deployment.
-
Separation Mechanism (SepMek): SepMek is tasked with the successful separation of the 2U cubesat into two independent 1U cubesats in orbit.
-
Sensor Group: The sensor group ensures that all sensors are functioning properly and that the collected data is transmitted back to Earth effectively.
Each group plays a vital role in the success of our mission, which focuses on testing and verifying our separation mechanism and measuring the distance between the cubesats after deployment. The data collected will contribute to ongoing research and future space technology projects, such as CubeDebris, which aims to address space debris management and satellite sustainability.
