A few weeks ago, our team got an exciting invitation to present Serpent at the Norwegian Space Cluster event in Oslo. The meeting was set for December 10th, right in the middle of exams for us. Still, Theodor (SepMek team lead) and I managed to find time to go.
I had my last exam on December 9th, and I was ready to travel straight after, but our flight from Evenes was canceled, and we were rebooked on a later flight. Looking at the weather forecast (which didn’t look promising). Determined not to miss this chance, we had to improvise. I decided to drive all the way from Narvik to Tromsø to catch a flight from there, just in case the Evenes flight got canceled again. It was a long drive, and probably sounded crazy to those at the meeting when I shared the story.
The presentation itself went really well. We talked about Serpent—what we’re working on, the possibilities it holds, and the challenges we face. A big focus was on Narvik’s location and how close we are to key sites like Andøya Space and Esrange in Kiruna. These are growing industries, and we highlighted the opportunities for collaboration, especially with students in Narvik who are so well-positioned geographically to support these sectors.
It was a great experience to connect with other companies and share what we’re working on. We left with new ideas, inspiration, and some great conversations. Who knows what this might lead to? Hopefully, even more exciting projects for Narvik—and maybe less stressful travel next time!
